River Plate Anglers - Brazil

9 Days/ 8 Nights/ 6+ Days Fishing – From $4,250

Fly-In Floating Cabins

The tingle of adventure begins as your floatplane soars over the magical Amazon rainforest. In the secluded waters below, lurks the world’s most exciting freshwater fish — the explosive peacock bass. You’ll land in a remote location, where your safari camp awaits. The camps mobility is key to adapting to river fluctuation, giving you the best chance for optimal fishing conditions. Piloting shallow-draft boats equipped with outboards and trolling motors, your Brazilian guide will lead you to tributaries and lagoons inaccessible to others. It’s common to catch two or three dozen peacocks a day, from 3-pound butterflies to 20-pound monsters. Back at camp, you’ll enjoy tasty meals and Quonset-style floating cabins with comfortable beds, reading lights, fans and private bathrooms.

FISHING PROGRAM

A typical fishing day runs from 6:30 AM. Until 6:00 PM. Anglers are paired two to a boat with an experienced Brazilian guide. Usually, you will be fishing from narrow-hulled 18-foot V-hull aluminum skiff with a short-footed 40 h.p. outboard. These boats can cruise over shallow sandbars and flats and get you into places other boats cannot reach. Fly anglers may fish from 14-foot Jon-boats with a casting platform. All boats have 25-HP outboards, trolling motors, swivel seats and coolers to store drinks and lunches. To have the best opportunity at landing a record-class fish, you should concentrate your efforts in secluded lagoons off the main river. The most exciting aspect of peacock bass fishing is its propensity for annihilating large topwater plugs or flies. When topwater activity slows, switch to a jerk bait. Additional information can be found on the peacock bass fishing website www.peacock-bass.com.

SEASON

Southern Amazon August-November.

Northern Amazon December-April.

The Brazilian Amazon actually offers two distinct fishing seasons, coinciding with the dry season north and south of the equator. On the Rio Negro north of Manaus, prime time is between December and April. From July through November, we head south to the Rio Madeira and other tributaries. River levels in this watershed can change quickly and affect fishing conditions, regardless of the season or historical patterns. Navigation of boats may also be affected. While we make every attempt to monitor such conditions, anglers assume the risk of these natural forces beyond our control.
