Fishing ReportAugust 2008Toccoa River (tailwater)The Toccoa River has cleared up from Lake Blue Ridge turning over and the fishing is turning on. My client landed a trophy brown trout that measured 25.5" on a guided float trip today. What a fish! The browns are currently staging up for the spawn. The rest of the month offers anglers a great chance at a brown trout of a lifetime. Try nymphing the deep runs or throw streamers to target these big boys. There have been some size 16 tan caddis hatching along with some sporadic October Caddis. As usual we have been seeing midges hatching throughout the day and there has been some trout keyed in on them. Look for some BWO's hatching as well on the cloudy days. Traffic is down quite a bit on the river. Take advantage of the great Fall fishing and give us a call for a guided float trip down the Toccoa River. Noontootla Creek Farms (Private Trophy Trout Water)Noontootla Creek Farms is running cold and clear. Water levels are unfortunately lower than we would like, but the trout are feeding heavily right now. Browns should be moving up into the stream any day now from the Toccoa River and will offer fly anglers a great shot at a trophy Brown Trout. The fish have been a little spooky with the low water but we have had good success by taking our time approaching the holes quietly and making the first cast count. The good news is the water has not been getting tons of pressure. The bookings have been relatively light so far this Fall. Take advantage of this and make your reservation for this great time of year. We now are booking trips directly through Reel Job Fishing for guided trips at NCF. This will make it much easier to reserve your trip dates at NCF. Bird Hunting is in season now and we are offering Cast and Blast options to our clients. NCF has new management this year for the hunting and we like what we see. Book your trip now with the local experts at Reel Job Fishing. Lake Blue RidgeLake Blue Ridge bass fishing is starting to heat up and will be on fire the rest of the month. Now is the time to hit the lake if your wanting to target the big boys. The water temerature is in the low 60's and the baitfish are getting ready to head into the creeks. The bass haven't moved in yet and are currently holding in 15-25 feet of water off of points and flats. This last cold front has delayed the bass moving up shallow. We expect there to be a good topwater and crankbait bite the rest of the month. Don't miss the opportunity to target these bass on the feed for the upcoming winter. We catch the big boys this time of year. Give us a call and book your guided trip on the lake. |
