Lake Mateos, Mexico

Lake Mateos

5 Days/ 4 Nights/ 3 Days Fishing – From $2,050

Brim Full of Bass!

Western Mexico’s Lake Mateos is reopening with a vengeance with its 55,000 acres of Florida-strain largemouth topping 10-pounds or more.

Located in the Sierra Madre Mountains, Mateos is an hour’s drive from Culiacan in Sinaloa state. It’s about two hours from renowned Lake El Salto, but anglers will find major differences. Instead of the partially submerged trees abundant at El Salto, Mateos has brush and trees along the shoreline edges. Open areas between these brush clumps provide wondrous bassing opportunities for everything from topwater baits to plastic worms.

FISHING PROGRAM

Once regarded as one of Mexico’s best bass spots, Mateos was nearly drained in 1994 to meet agricultural demands. As the water dropped, fishing pressure faded and then almost disappeared. Today, Mateos’ bass population has come back strong and fast, and it’s not uncommon for anglers to have 100-fish days.

Scouts claim the 50-mile-long lake is the best they’ve found for fishing spinnerbaits, and report there’s also super action using crankbaits along Mateos’ many ridges and islands. You’ll fish from new 18-foot fiberglass custom bass boats with 85 hp Yamaha engines and MinnKota trolling motors.
