Heading Out West 2010
Posted By Kent Klewein on July 23, 2010
Well, I’m sitting at the tying bench finishing up my last dozen of foam beetle patterns for my upcoming annual WY trip. I’ll be leaving on Saturday and will be returning on the 31st of July. RJF guide, Brad Wayne and Louis Cahill will make up the rest of the crew.
We’re really looking forward to us all getting to fish for a change. Hopefully we’ll get some good weather and catch a ton of nice trout. I’ll be posting photos from the trip like we did last year when I return. No U-haul this year everyone, HA. We’ve reserved a suburban and it looks like we’ll have a brand new Hyde driftboat to row as well.
Above are just my dry flies for the trip. Louis and Brad will be packing the heat as well. I think we’ll be covered with just about 1 1/2 to 2 dozen of each pattern
. Just to be on the safe side though, I’ve pre-cut a ton of foam beetle, chernobyl, and hopper bodies that we can tie up quick if the need arises. Tip #1, always make sure someone in your crew packs a tying vise and materials for emergencies. Louis has us covered on this so we’re cool.
This past month of guiding has been crazy. Thanks to everyone who’s supported us we’ve had our best year to date. As soon as we return we’ll be hitting the water on more guide trips and look forward to putting our clients on more big fish. Noontootla Creek Farms (NCF) has been crazy hot everyone. My last half day of guiding we had 28 big fish takes on our hopper patterns. For those of you who’ve fished out there before, you know that’s pretty spectacular for a half day of fishing. The cool thing is, the fishing is going to continue to get even hotter as more and more terrestrials end up face down on the stream and in the stomachs of the big resident trout. This killer terrestrial season will run all the way through September, and partially into October so give us a call and set up your reservation for a day of fishing at NCF.
I’ll be checking my voicemail and email daily when we get off the river in WY, so please don’t hesitate to give me a ring. Just because I’m out of town does not mean you can’t book a guide trip next week. Just shoot me an email and you’ll get an automated reply with all the appropriate phone contacts for RJF guides on hand. They’ll take care of you and put you on the trout and bass, I promise.
FYI, look for the TVA generation on the Toccoa River to slow up by the end of next week. The TVA is only aloud to drop the lake so fast until they have to back off. Look for some pretty awesome fishing when they do stop the 24-7 generation. The trout will have had plenty of time to cool off from all the heavy fishing pressure.

Hey Kent,
Look forward to a report from your trip out west. I am itching already for some beetle takes on Noontootla. Just an FYI thanks to your words of confidence about my casting, I applied down at Callaway for a PT Fly Fishing Guide Position. I nailed it and am now on staff. Thanks as always, and you really provide a lot of wisdom and knowledge even for those of us who spend just about as much time out on the streams as you do. Heck you get any better and you may grow fins and gills…
Good luck! Sucks we all couldn’t make it out together.
Kent,
Im jealous! Ill be heading out to Wy, Idaho, and MT in late August for my annual trip. Cant Wait! Leave some fish for me.
Kent,
Have a great trip !!!!
Don’t forget, if you get a chance try a float below

with plenty of nice fish.
