Getting Ready for Tournament
Posted By Kent Klewein on September 18, 2009
I know I told everyone that I would be posting a lot this week. The truth is I’ll be very busy getting ready for the Fly Fishing Tournament next weekend. I’ve got loads of flies to tie up all in different weights. They aren’t going to let us use strike indicators or split-shot, nor tie dropper flies off the bend of the hooks, and we can’t use beads bigger than 4mm. I’m all for following the rules, but it would be nice to have rules that allowed people to fish how they normally due on a day to day basis. Just makes sense to me
The competition is going to be stiff with big names showing up from around the country, but I think Joel Dickey and I will be ready to hold our own. We’ll see, its all about staying in the zone for the casting competition.

Kent – where is the tournament?
GOod Luck!!
I’m anxious to hear ALL the details of the event. What type casting qualifiers were there..What were the weather conditions, water conditions? Who was there and did any big names not qualify? Was there a hot fly. Would you do it again?
I look forward to hearing, I hope you did well.
Rene,
There were some big casters at the event. Rick Hartman, Kevin Howell, Walker Parrot, USA Fly Fishing team member (name ?) Fly Fishing NC Team, ect.
I laid out a 94.5′ cast and I think it placed top 3 or 4 for the distance. Hartman almost put up a perfect score on the accuracy.
Water was Very HIGH when we fished it and our best fly was a black woolly bugger. We didn’t do too hot. I think we picked the wrong beat. You should fish it next year.
