Bonefish Leader Formula

Here’s a Bonefish leader formula that I came up with over the years that works wonders for casting accurately and turning over your leader in windy conditions. I like to use semi hard to hard mono for my saltwater leaders. This helps to fight the wind and lay out the fly straight into a stiff breeze with ease. Having your leader lay out straight is VERY important to being connected to your fly at all times.
Bruce Chard’s Bonefish Leader Formula
Rio Saltwater Hard Mono (Butt Section to Tippet)
3′ of 27lb with a double surgeons knot on the end
3′ of 22lb – Blood Knot
3′ of 17lb – Blood Knot
2′ of 13lb – Blood Knot
2′ of 16lb – Seguar G-Max Floro (This has a smaller diameter than Rio Hard Mono so it works great)
Give it a try and let me know how it works for you.
