Lake Fontana, Smallie Paradise

Posted By on February 18, 2011

Reel Job Fishing guide, Eric Welch just finished getting back from a trip to Lake Fontana, located outside of Bryson City, NC. I haven’t seen him this excited about a lake in quite a while. Apparently, it has the perfect smallmouth bass habitat with tons of  rocky banks, points, and boulders. Eric said he could see his lures twenty feet deep in the water with the super clear water.  Great populations of smallmouth and largemouth bass make this lake a must for serious bass junkies looking to stretch their line.

Lake Fontana Fishing

Eric’s fishing partner landed a huge twenty-four inch brown trout while fishing a float n’ fly jig and they also caught some really nice largemouth bass. Lake Fontana also has good population of musky which I’m really itching to try targeting up there very soon. They have to come to the shallows to spawn at some point  in early spring, and I’d love to land one of these guys on the fly rod. We’ll be visiting this lake again very soon and will post more fishing related information for anyone interested in making a trip up to Lake Fontana to fish.

Keep it Reel,
