Fall Bass Fishing in North GA
Posted By Kent Klewein on September 17, 2010
Hit the lake with Eric Welch this morning for a half day of bass fishing in North Georgia. We didn’t have a lot of time so we decided to fish Lake Blue Ridge. The morning bite was good with overcast skies and cool temperatures. We quickly landed a nice five bass sac of largemouths to start the day. Our success came on a variety of topwater lures.
Unfortunately, once the overcast skies burned off and the sun got up high, our bass bites got farther and farther apart as the day progressed. The constant falling water from heavy generation combined with the extremely early turnover on the lake this year, has the bass bite inconsistent at the moment. Once fall temperatures arrive and the lake drawdown is complete in a few more weeks, we expect fishing to really pick up on Lake Blue Ridge. There should be an incredible topwater bite here this fall and we look forward to taking big smallmouth bass on both conventional and fly fishing gear.
The smallmouth bass lately have been tough to find. One day we get into them and the next day they seem to be hiding from us. There’s a good chance the smallmouth bass are spending a lot of their time in open water chasing schools of blue back herring. When this is the case, it can be tough to pin point and stay on top of the smallmouth. Again though, once the lake levels stabilize, and water temperatures begin to drop with the cooler fall temperatures, smallmouth feeding patterns and location should be much easier to zero in on.
If your looking to go bass fishing this fall we’d love the opportunity to guide you on one of our home lakes. Our professional staff will put you on the fish and teach you the ins and outs of mountain lake fishing. For more information please visit our website or give contact us by phone or email.
