Parachute Beetle Pattern

Posted By on February 19, 2009

Do you still have plenty of beetle patterns stocked in your fly box? If the answer is no, it’s that time of year again to tie up your favorite beetle patterns. Beetle larva wake up from their winter hibernation in early spring and begin feeding in preparation for pupation. Towards late spring their metamorphosis is complete and the mature adult beetles will start showing their presence on our rivers and streams. From late spring throughout the summer, fishing beetle patterns should always be on the radar for fly anglers. Some of my biggest fish taken on dries have come from imitating these terrestrials.
