Girdle Bug Fly Pattern on Steroids

Posted By on October 5, 2010

From North Georgia to North Carolina the girdle bug has been a hot fly lately.  Many brook trout, rainbows, and brown trout have fallen victim to this pattern the last couple of weeks. My latest version on steroids has really produced well. Try tying up some buggy versions like this and try them next time your out on the water. Even better give me a call for a guide trip and I’ll show you how productive this fly can be in person :)

Add eyes to the fly if desired

I like tying this pattern on a size 8 hook with plenty of wraps of .025 lead to help get it down. Smaller versions are also very productive if you find the trout are a little picky.
