Toccoa River Float Yesterday
Posted By Kent Klewein on June 3, 2009
Had a float trip yesterday on the Toccoa River. Had two first timers Matt & Russ Merker. We had a great time but the fishing was pretty dawg gone tough. Everyone caught fish and Russ slammed but the bugs weren’t coming off like I had hoped. Hence there were very little fish rising. Despite the tough fishing we had some really nice takes on dries, and we sight fished and caught the few fish we saw rising. The blue skies combined with the hottest day of the year also didn’t help us out. Overall, we did have a great time and my clients learned a ton about the sport of fly fishing. We floated the lower half of the river which took us about 10 hours to get down.
Thanks again for giving me a call Matt & Russ. I look forward to fishing with you guys again down the road.

Kent. Thanks again for introducing Dad and I to what inevitably will be our new obsession in the sport of fishing. We had a great time and look forward to booking another trip in the future. Dad picked it up quicker than me, but I refuse to let him be better than me. Next time he’s getting his butt handed to him. Let’s stay in touch and good luck at your upcoming event. Dad and I will be pulling for you.
Matt,
I’m very happy that you had a good time. We’ll continue building both of your skills with a fly rod in hand on our next trip. You both did very well for your first trip. Don’t forget as well, you were the one with the jet lag handicap from Europe. Looking forward to staying in touch and spending more time on the water.
Well, Kent, you are my first instructor (on the water) since my dad began getting me up at four a.m. for Ohio creek fishing. We caught some big ones back in the fifties. But yesterday with summer bearing down on us, you taught Matt and I some skills that tricked those hungry trout to taste our flies. You were strict with us and that was good, because my dad who watches from above doesn’t want us to have any bad habits. Matt and I will surely need more guidance with the techniques and finesse of fly fishing, so we’ll keep in touch for another trip. Thanks for a great day on the Tocoa and best wishes to you and your fiance. Russ PS. Matt and I intrigued about the bass fishing with trout gear. Let us know how the tournament goes. PPSS. And for Matt kicking my butt, don’t think so!
