The Real Deal in Fish Carving

Posted By on January 18, 2010

My good friend Tom Dean from Montana just sent me some pictures of his latest masterpiece. This piece was built for Big R Stores and they were blown away by the finished artwork.  Way to go Tom on another brilliant work of art.  You never fail to amaze me.  Keep bringing IT!!!

Milo Creek Carvings - Tom Dean

big-r-stores-sculpture_blogOn the slab of Bubinga (Ghana Africa)…there are 11 fish, over 100 cattails/reeds, two dragon flys, and one frog all carved out of exotic woods.  The woods used in this piece are Koa wood (Hawaii), Lace wood (Queensland Australia), Bocote wood (Amazon Region), Tigerwood (Southern Brazil), Peruvian Rosewood (Brazil), Black Walnut (North America), and Bubinga (Ghana Africa).  The piece weighs over 2000 lbs!!!  I drove it in a cargo trailer from my house to the store…it took 14 guys to lift it in and out of the trailer and then we had a forklift, lift it into place while we all stood on schafling holding it while it was being secured….talk about tough!!!!!  So I’m really happy that that is now done!!!!
