Ronnie Hall Floats with RJF
Posted By Kent Klewein on February 21, 2011
I had the pleasure of guiding Ronnie Hall on the Toccoa River yesterday. Ronnie Hall is the The Fish Hawk’s foremost advisor for the fly shop Destination Travel Agency. He also guided for over twenty years on the Hiawassee River and in Montana. Great guy, great fisherman, and funny as hell. We boated around thirty trout yesterday with one really nice 18-inch rainbow. The wind was brutal and a strong pressure system rolled through yesterday which hindered our fishing a bit, but overall I was really happy with what we caught.
Quick Testimonial from Ronnie Hall
“Yesterday in gale force winds Kent rowed me down the Toccoa. With a nasty low pressure system, off-colored water, and an old fisherman we boated thirty trout, one an 18 inch rainbow. I guided for trout for over twenty years on the Hiwassee and in Montana so I know a little about guiding. I give Kent an A+ as a guide, his knowledge and expertise. I would highly recommend you fish with him this spring. I can’t wait to get back.”
Please visit and support The Fish Hawk when you need gear, flies, and fishing related information. Their staff have fish all over the world, most have guided, and they know everything to do with the sport of fly fishing. Very friendly and the shop is stocked with just about anything you can think of. The Fish Hawk is by far the best fly shop in the state of GA, and it’s worth your time to make a visit to see it in person.

GOod stuff man…we had the same weather the day before and it was a bitch of a day on the stream. I see you guys faired much better.
Toccoa river float trips are awesome, I have fished the toccoa river several times and never hooked into a good trout, with that said i was a little nervous about floating the toccoa. When you go on a guide trip you always hope to land a monster fish, i mean lets face it. why would you pay money to catch stockers. my brother and i floated the toccoa with kent and the morning started off slow but mid day kent put us on some big fish.I landed a monster 22in bow and just a few moments later i landed a 26in bow. the trip was well worth the time and money. dont under estimate the toccoa float trips.
Nice fish bud. I’d say on the Toccoa this year the density of fish is down from the flood but the numbers of 20 – 22 inchers is up. Hopefully they”ll put more brown trout in before the really good hatches start. I’m praying for Carrie and the baby……hope it happens soon for you both.
My brother and I used to fish the Hiawassee when we both youngsters and lived in Cleveland Tenn….we had a lot of good times and caught a lot of big fish.
I liked reading your blog ~ thanks for posting.
