Hiwassee River
Posted By Kent Klewein on March 20, 2011
The heavy rains and high flows on the Toccoa River tailwater lately, have many fly fishermen searching for a Plan B. Fishing conditions have started to turn around on the Toccoa River and flows are back down, but with Lake Blue Ridge so low, all it takes is one big rain system to move through and the TVA will be forced to release unfavorable water flows for fishing. We recommend checking out the Hiwassee River in Reliance, TN and booking a trip with Steve Bryson at Hiwassee Angler Fly Shop if you run into this issue. He’s their head guide and will show you a good time when we aren’t able to guide you on the Toccoa River. The TVA says they will start refilling Lake Blue Ridge back up this April. If that’s the case then we’ll be back to normal conditions and float trips.

Hey Kent,
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you guys got a chance to come over and float the Hi the other day. Look forward to getting over and floating the Toccoa real soon. Hope you have a great season. Stay in touch and thanks again!
I love the hiwassee, my favorite place to fish… great trail along great water. I pass that shop all the time but have never stopped in, I will have to do that sometime. Btw kent, congrats on the baby, and I will be trying to do some fly fishing in northern Italy in early June. Any suggestions?
Chris,
Don’t know any places in Italy off the top of my head. You better try surfing the web. Good Luck and hope to fish with you soon.
Kent
