Fly South – One Killer Fly Shop
Posted By Kent Klewein on January 25, 2010
A while back I posted somewhere on Facebook, or even maybe here about a spectacular fly shop I visited up in Nashville, TN. That fly shop was Fly South, and I highly recommend you checking it out in person next time you find yourself in their area.
The moment I stepped foot into the shop, it was instant fly fishing eye candy galore. I was immediately greeted with smiles and introductions from the entire staff. It only took a minute or two for me to figure out I could put a serious dent in my check book, but better yet really enjoy myself in the process. They absolutely have everything a fly fisherman could want.
Seriously, Fly South had the best fly tying selection I’ve ever seen. I could have spent a couple hours in there for sure. Only problem, this visit I didn’t have time for that.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stepped foot into a fly shop looking for a specific type of fly line, and they failed to have it in stock. Fly South must have $10,000+ in fly line alone. That’s impressive, bottom-line.
Above there’s fly bens on both sides slap full of flies. And that’s not all, they’ve had to add loads of big Plano boxes to store all the nymphs and other flies they have in stock. My only mistake was not purchasing any patterns. They had many patterns I’d not seen before. The fly shop owner, Jim Mauries is a tying fanatic, and holds many fly tying classes during the year.
Try a pair of Kaenon sunglasses on next time you have the opportunity. They have unbelievable polarized crispness, and they’re very comfortable. If your a die-hard Smith sunglasses fan, they also have plenty of those in stock as well.
