Bring on the Great Fall Fishing

Posted By on September 20, 2011

I woke up this morning to the wonderful sound of rain falling on the roof of my cabin. What a welcome change from the dry hot months we encountered in North Georgia this summer. The good news is fall is just around the corner, and that means great fishing is ahead of us. We’ve already seen a huge drop in daily temperatures and water temperatures on the creeks have dropped into the upper 50′s during mid day.

You’ve surly noticed the blog being a little stagnant lately. August & September trout fishing was pretty bleak and I really didn’t feel the need to continually post tough fishing reports. I’m pretty sure everyone found that out on their own. Then I went WY for a nine days, followed up by me contracting the FLU. It’s on like donkey kong now though.

Noontootla Creek Farms (NCF) – Re-Opens

I talked to the manager at NCF and they’ve decided to reopen the private section of Noontootla Creek. The trout have had a nice break from fishing pressure and they look healthy and active. Guide trips over here should be pretty spectacular this fall and winter. As long as you wear appropriate clothing, you’ll be comfortable and ready to experience some awesome trout fishing. This stream will book up fast this fall so don’t wait until the last minute to book your fishing trips here.

Toccoa River Shines in the Fall and Winter

The Toccoa River has had some recent stockings thanks to volunteers and John Damer at the GADNR. Fishing reports have been pretty good lately as well. Generally the fall and winter months yield good fishing on this tailwater. Float trips are the best way to fish this river to access remote stretches away from the crowded public access points. For the most part nymphing and streamer fishing will be your best bet for catching good numbers of trout. However, blue wing olives will be starting to show up as we move into the fall which will provide some good dry fly fishing. Don’t forget about adult midges as well. Trout on the tailwater feed on these tiny guys year round.

Big Bass During the Fall and Winter with Eric Welch

Eric Welch is ready for another busy fall and winter guide season. The fall is absolutely a dynamite time to book a guided bass fishing trip. You’ll find your rod bent more than not, and the opportunity to land a trophy bass is in your favor this time of year. Eric will be outfitted with fly rods as well for anglers interested in chasing bass on the fly. Don’t forget about the float in fly rig either. It starts once the water temperatures hover around the magical 55 degree water temperature range. We’ll be chasing big smallmouth and other bass species with a custom nymph rig on a fly rod as well. If you haven’t experienced this we highly recommend it.

  1. Kent,

Just wanted to say thank you for adding me to the roster this year for Reel-Job Fishing. I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to be a part of one of the most professional guide services I have ever had the pleasure of being around. Can’t wait to show some folks why I consider my little corner of the mountains has some of the best fly fishing to be had anywhere in the South.
