Lake Burton fishing is still hot. Got out on the lake this morning guiding Benny and Darrell Chunn, we started our morning targeting largemouths and later in the day we went after the spotted bass. We had one largemouth that weighed in at 8.3 lb and another at 5.5lb, our spotted bass range around the 2.5lb to 4lb range. Water temp is holding at 75 degrees, I would say after this month we will have to start our deep water fishing. So if you are looking to catch a big largemouth or a trophy spot, give us a call

Lately we’ve been running most of our guided fly fishing trips for trout on our private waters. Although the Toccoa River has been super hot on some trips the TVA has been running on average just 120cfs down the river during non-generation hours. That has us pretty limited on what stretches we can float with three people in the boat. On top of that they’ve been throwing inconsistent generation schedules at us. A lot of this has to do with the dam repair rehabilitation project going on. We’re hoping conditions will turn around soon. If you’re dead set on floating the river we’ll be happy to guide you. We just recommend that we have a Plan B if fishing conditions aren’t favorable the day of your trip.

Private water has been really hot lately. Lots of fish and quite a few on dry flies. The fish are fighting hard all of our clients have been ecstatic with the fishing and guide services we’ve provided. Noontootla Creek Farms is always a great place to spend a day fly fishing. If you’re looking for somewhere new we’ve got you covered. We recently acquired a trout gem in the rough, that’s larger than Noontootla Creek and has over 4 miles of private water. Give us a call if you’re wanting to get in on the action. We’re really excited to have a back up fishing location when NCF is booked up.

Keep it Reel,

Spring is in full swing in East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. The fishing over the past couple weeks has been excellent to say the least. The Watauga River has bbeen our go-to river for float trips. We also float the South Holston River when the TVA gives us a favorable generation schedule. With the bulk of the caddis action behind us, it’s mayfly time now. The sulphur action is picking up and it will continue through the fall. In addition, we have an abundance of craneflies, caddis, midges and terrestrials. Although fish will key in on terrestrials right now, the best action is right around the corner.

Are primary tactics for this time of year are dry dropper rigs and tandem nymph rigs under a strike indicator. When the weather turns bad we like to throw streamers. if you havent’t fished the Watauga or South Holston rivers in East Tennessee, now is the time to book a trip. Fishing in May and June is some of the best fishing of the year. For those interested in a trip, we can recommend some great lodging options.

In addition to the great fishing in Tennessee, we also offer float trips on two of North Carolina’s trout tailwater’s, the Catawba and Tuckasegee Rivers. Both are fishing really well right now.

For those smallmouth and carp addicts, we have you covered. We offer guided float trips for smalllmouth abass and sight-fishing trips for carp. We will be shifting focus to these species very soon, so stay tuned! If you’ve got a saltwater fly fishing trip planned in the near future, a carp trip is a great way to brush up on your skills before you head ocean side.

Float Trips Rates: Full Day (8 Hours) $400.00 - Gear, Lunch & Beverages are included

Over the past few days I’ve been guiding on Lake Chatuge, Lake Burton and Parksville Lake. All I can say is my clients have put some nice fish in the boat the past few days. We started out on lake Chatuge and I taught Chandler how to catch Largemouth bass off bed. The next day we hit Lake Burton for some big bass fishing, and you can see from the pictures we found them. Then I ended the weekend guiding on Parksville Lake where the little man boated 17 fish. Most the fish are off beds and are ready to eat, so if your looking for a good time to fish book a trip today.

We’ve been super busy on the lakes. Over the past couple of weeks we’ve been on Lake Lanier, Lake Blue Ridge, Lake Burton, Lake Chickamauga, Carters Lake and Lake Chatuge. Most of the fish are done with the spawn, but there are some that are just spawning now due to the full moon. We’ve been catching our fish on shaky head, dropshot, rattle traps, flukes, jigs and tubes. Some of the fish are shallow and are in the mouth of pockets. If your looking for some good fishing now is the time to book.

Toccoa River Tailwater Fishing

Spring is hear, the fishing is hot, but it feels like summer already. The unusually warm weather has some of our hatches showing up early. We encourage all you anglers out there who love May for the sulphurs and cahill hatch to consider moving your trips up to April. The way things are looking that’s going to be the best month this year on the Toccoa River for dry fly fishing. Then again, you can always throw meat and have a shot at a trophy fish. Just ask Ben Archibald who landed this nice 20+ inch rainbow trout on a big streamer with guide, Dell Neighbors. Caddis, midges, and a few hendricksons have been seen. I’ve heard reports this week that people have seen a few sulphurs and cahill’s on the Toccoa River as well. I know on the hooch just south of us they have already started making an appearance.

Noontootla Creek Farms

Continuing rainfall has our streams and rivers running high. Trout are really active on our private waters. This nice trout above was taken by John Wimbish at Noontootla Creek farms. That day he landed 25″ and 23″ trophies and was a happy camper to say the least. Just so everyone knows, NCF isn’t shooting fish in a barrel. There are days when the fishing is epic and the strike zone is big, when you can land 30+ fish a day easy. But then there are days when you really have to work for the fish. Either way, in our opinion it’s worth spending a day over there, for the beauty of the stream and resident wild trout, and the reward of fooling these wily fish. It’s one of the best small streams in the area for anglers to really brush up on their skills. You can go to other private water in the state that will have 30-40 fish in a hole, sometimes even more, and you can end up catching more fish, but you won’t walk away from the trip with as much knowledge as you will as if you went to NCF. That’s my two cents, being that I’m two miles from NCF and have guided on almost all the private water in Georgia you can be confident the information is accurate.

New Private Water Access for Reel Job Fishing Clients

We do have some new private waters that we aren’t marketing because as soon as our competitors find our they’ll be beating down the doors to try to get in the action. If you’ve fished NCF or the Toccoa River quite a bit and you want to try something different please give us a call and we’ll take the time to talk about our other fishing locations. We won’t be booking a ton of trips on these new private water locations. Our goal as well as the owners is to keep the fishing pressure low, that way every client is sure to have amazing fishing experience. Give us a call soon if you want to be one of the lucky ones who gets to fish these virgin waters.

Guided Bass Fishing with Eric Welch

For all you bass fisherman out there we’re happy to inform you that you can’t go wrong to hit any lake right now. Fishing is super hot on all of our lakes, and many of the bass are already in pre-spawn or in the middle of spawning. This is spawning temps and the fish don’t know what to do, because most of the time the lakes don’t hit these temps till the end of April. We’re catching alot of Spotted bass off points and pebble rocky banks where there staging up to spawn. The Largemouth are in the back of pockets swiming around waiting to lock down and spawn. If your looking for some good fishing, give us a call now.
