Why we Bass Fish in January

Posted By Kent Klewein on January 29, 2010

Well it looks like we’ll be getting another winter wonderland storm tonight and tomorrow.  I’m down for the snow and sledding with my boy as long as I can still get out and fish on Sunday. It’s too early to call now, but people up here seem to think we’ll get at least five inches of snow.

Yesterday, Eric Welch and I drove over to Lake Hiawassee and fished for about three quarters of a day.  We landed some dandy smallmouth on the float n’ fly and plastics. We brought to net around fourteen bass.  All of which, looked like they had been eating around the clock.  We estimated we would have had around 15lbs of smallmouth in a tournament. That’s a pretty good sack  for January.

Eric and I will be hitting the lake again as soon as the roads are clear.  Check back soon for more bass fishing pictures.  If your interested in booking a guided lake trip with us please visit our website at the end of the post.

  1. well, looks like a weekend to come up with some new float-n-fly, for the next trip.

  2. IS that a Cobra Mask, from G.I. JOE.

  3. Been there Kent, hooked up with a seasoned brown on the Cumberland last oct in front of seasoned vets and started bragging for being able to cast a 1/0 seducer w/ a 4wt and wadya know SNAP! I guess that’s the fish’s way of giving us all the “fin”ger.

  4. You got it Chase. Sometimes you got to be CHECKED by Charlie Murphy. I’m going to try to redeem myself tomorrow on the river. Respect, focus, and determination. :)
