Georgia Fly Fishing in the Fall
Posted By Kent Klewein on November 4, 2008
Fall is here and the waters have finally cooled off. The Brown Trout are staging up right now anticipating the spawn and fly anglers should be hitting the water hard if they want a shot at a bruiser. The last week in October through November is the best time of the year to hook into the biggest Brown Trout of your life.
I like to target these trophies fishing with a tandem nymph rig. Make sure to have a big nymph for your top fly. This has accounted for most of my big fish in the past. My second strategy if the fish aren’t wanting something dead-drifted or swung is to throw streamers. I like flashy patterns that tend to aggrevate the fish into striking. Many times I’ll drop a medium size nymph off the back for short strikes.
Lake Blue Ridge has finished turning over and the Toccoa River is running clear. This month’s fishing should be off the chain. Lastly, please don’t harrass the trout on the reds if you run into them. We need them to do their job and reproduce for us. What I’ve been talking about above is targeting them during the prespawn. Please practice catch and release if you do land a trophy. They don’t reproduce over night and their exceptional genes are needed to pass on to future generations.
